Are you reliable? Are you loyal? Are you trustworthy? You need to think of good answers to these questions in relation to your previous roles eg: the last role I was there for x years as a very loyal employee until I was made redundant etc.
You will definitely be asked if you have handled cash before and on what till system, who for and how you did this process? Did you do it on your own, did you have a supervisor? Because of the cash handling side to this job, you will probably find that the employer will want to run a credit check on you to ensure you have no bad debts as that may make them feel you are too high a risk. If you have no bad credit you should be fine

As with any job, the employers will indeed run background checks on potential employees. Apart from the standard checks and proof of qualifications you might need, being a cashier requires that you’re friendly.
Obviously, when you have any interview, you’ll be trying to be friendly in order to win over your interviewer. Being a cashier, you’ll be interacting with the public a lot, so the interviewer really does want to see a friendly face and happy personality for this interview.
Good luck!
