Dear HR,
I should like to apply for the role of CAD Technician as advertised recently.
I have been working freelance for nearly a year now as a CAD technician and would like to consolidate into a permanent position where I can work with other members of the team to deliver a range of focused projects on behalf of the organisation.
I use a range of software to create design plans for buildings and machinery and have worked across a variety of projects, where I deal mainly with 3D solid modelling techniques, although a number of other projects I have worked on focused around 2D surface modelling techniques, the longest assignment being 6 months in total.
For this particular project I had to draw a flat representation of a new car design for the client to comment on, and amend and approve, prior to the engineers building and testing the new prototype.
I have also helped to prepare cost estimates on projects, and produce assembly instructions and maintenance manuals for installation, service and repair technicians.
I have a sound knowledge of engineering design principles, good numeracy and computer skills, good communication skills, knowledge of material properties, an understanding of manufacturing processes and creative flair; I am flexible and adaptable; I am able to meet deadlines and enjoy working as part of a team.
I have a City & Guilds Certificate in 2D Computer Aided Design (4353) Level 2, and Level 3, which allowed me to specialise in 2D or 3D design. The particular college I attended used AudoCAD and also ran some more specialised software packages, including AutoCAD LT, SolidWorks and 3ds Max.
