Dear Sir / Madam

Further to your advertisement in the Cumbria News last Thursday, I would like to apply for the position of hotel manager at the Amble side site.

I do have considerable experience as a hotel manager, although not in such a beautiful area of the country. I have been based in small towns and although in my present position I have assisted at different hotels in the group when there have been the occasional emergency, I certainly haven’t worked in in the countryside.

All of my experience has been in hotels where business people usually stay, whereas in your hotels they mainly cater for visitors to the area who are looking to enjoy themselves. I welcome the difference that makes to the position. Your clients are on holiday and all staff members need to ensure that everything is done to make their stay as comfortable as possible.

I enclose a copy of my CV which provides details of my experience. The advertisement does suggest that a visit the hotel prior to attending an interview is possible and I would welcome that opportunity.

Thank you for reading my application and I look forward to hearing from you in due course.

Yours faithfully

As a hotel manager, you should be able to manage a team well and also have good customer service skills.

Make sure you give examples of when you were the leader, even if you’ve never been a manager of anything before.

You’ll also have to be able to manage customer complaints well. It’s a common request for customers to say, "Can I speak to the manager please?" when they have problems, so you have to prove that you can remain calm, friendly and under control.
